Looks Like A Trip To Four Seasons Resort Maui Is Now A “Must”
Another great chef I met at LA Food & Wine was Executive Chef Roger Stettler from the Four Seasons Resort Maui. Swiss born and trained Chef Stettler is particularly excited about the wealth of fresh, island-sourced ingredients he has to work with. As he explained, Maui has so many microclimates that the island can grow almost any type of produce imaginable – even olive oil! He mentioned that there’s an emerging agribusiness in Upcountry Maui for growing olive trees for olive oil (led with the help of Maui Olive Company) happening there now. Personally, I’d love to sample some of that when it’s available. And, if I have to travel to Maui to get a preview before its release, well, guess that’s just part of the DeathbedFood job!
At LA Food & Wine, the Chef was offering samples of their tartare cones. Delicious!
Quick Hollywood Meets Maui Story:
I actually went on vacation in Maui in the Spring of 2010. We stayed in Wailea at the Wailea Beach Marriott, and walked along the shore visiting all of the hotels along that strip all week, strolling past the Grand Wailea, the Four Seasons Resort Maui, and the Fairmont Kea Lani. Pretty early on in our stay, we could see a huge production set being built at the Grand Wailea. When we asked, they said it was to film an upcoming Jennifer Aniston/Adam Sandler movie called “Just Go With It” (now on DVD).
So, being the Jennifer Aniston groupie (ew, I mean, fan) that I am, I made a point of our walking (more like slowing sauntering) near the set every day … multiple times a day … in hopes of seeing Jennifer. Pretty much each time, we’d encounter the same thing: security people carrying clipboards on the sidewalk saying, “Can you please keep walking along?” or, occasionally, “Can you move it along please?” … wow, if I wanted that kind of brush off from Hollywood, I’d just stay home and have Kathy Griffin do it!
Sorry to report, we only caught a very, very faint view of Jennifer and Adam filming … later, when the film came out, we went to see it in the theatre. So funny that a week of filming there at the hotel amounted to probably five minutes on film which includes this scene with Jennifer, Adam, Brooklyn Decker and a “Sheep Shipper”:
So, back to the Four Seasons Maui …
Oh, I wish I was back at The Four Seasons Maui! Well, guess it looks like a trip is in order for your DeathbedFood blogger … I think it’s only doing my due diligence to sample Chef Stettler’s locally sourced cuisine first hand.
