The Highs (and Lows) of a New Blogger Reporting from the Red Carpet
As a new blogger, I had my first Red Carpet experience recently at The Taste in Los Angeles. As you can imagine, I had some highs – and lows.
First, the highs …
Numero uno, it was a thrill to meet Scott Conant, whom I’ve admired not only for his culinary rockstar persona but also for his recent Entourage appearance! I interviewed him about what his DeathbedFood may be. His telling me to “get out more” was priceless.
Also inspiring was meeting Entourage star Debi Mazar and her husband, Gabriele Corcos. What warm and open people! The couple was a great interview, having a lot of fun with my DeathbedFood question:
Meeting American Idol Season 9 finalist Tim Urban was really cool.
He’s a real Foodie and told me all about this amazing Tilapia dish he had in Dallas recently that he just can’t get enough of. I’ll be speaking to Tim soon in more depth to explore his food passion more.
Roy Choi of Kogi BBQ food truck fame was also fun. As I blogged, Roy gave me a “spicy” answer about his DeathbedFood – including his love of Kimchi:
Chef Kerry Simon (of Simon L.A. and Simon Restaurant at Palms Place) added flavor to my Red Carpet experience. I’ve admired him for his inspired “Simon Says Brunch” with his signature Junk Food desserts – I had a blast when I went there in Vegas awhile back.
Chef Simon, I believe you still owe me your DeathbedFood answer!
Talking with FIG Chef Ray Garcia was a treat.
“Fresh. Simple. Unassuming. Sustainable.” are all words Ray uses to describe the menu at FIG, the new seasonal bistro in Santa Monica which is high on my to-try list. I love that he advocates locally grown ingredients and I can’t wait to go to FIG.
Wine rapper, Justin Warner, really livened up the Red Carpet …
As I blogged, Justin is an “oeno-rapper” and has become known as the “Wine Rhyme Enthusiast.” It was fantastic when he broke out a rap which happened to be about my favorite varietal, Chateauneuf du Pape:
So, now for the “lows” … or, more accurately, the “low.” Without a doubt, my most “challenging” interview was with Kathy Griffin.
Why? Well, mostly because Kathy blew by me. I wanted to ask her, among other things, how she got that amazing figure and what she eats. Many women in America are probably wondering if she eats – and, if so, what? Does she ever indulge (please say yes!). But since she barreled past me, we may never know. Instead, she gave me a breezy, “See you inside!” But, Kathy, thanks for telling me proactively though that you were wearing Missoni (Gorgeous dress BTW!).
As we all know, one of Kathy’s main shows is Bravo’s My Life on the D List. Kathy, if you’re on the D List and you whizzed by me, what list would that put me on? C’mon! I know you’re the Talent, but can you cut a new on-the-food-scene blogger a break, girl? Take one for the team?! Kathy, I can be reached @DeathbedFood on Twitter …
