LA’s New W. 3rd Street Pub-Brasserie’s Definitely Worth Checking Out
Personally, I think LA is lacking in late-night dining spots. For a major city, it’s often hard to find anything compelling to snack on after 10pm (sometimes even 9). So, I welcome any new places which offer late night options. 3rd Street Station Pub-Brasserie does, open to 2am every day. I recently attended a Media Dinner there where Chef Greg DeMichel showed off his European-style cuisine to a group of food writers including StomachLife‘s MJ & Ella, Grape Smart‘s Arianna Armstrong, WhereLA‘s Christina Xenos and me (hosted by Azcona + Rodgers PR).
Photo Note: All photos taken with the new iPad. What do you guys think? I’m in love with that for photo taking now …
The restaurant was inspired by a train station cafe in Metz, France, the hometown of one of the partner’s mothers. They serve lunch, brunch, dinner and late-nite menus … all designed to bring casual European sophistication to the LA dining scene. Personally, I love that focus. For example, though we didn’t taste it, they serve coq au vin which is one of my absolute favorites and should definitely be on more LA menus.
I love that they have a strong Happy Hour menu Monday – Friday, 5 – 7pm, which includes Mac & Cheese ($4), Margherita Cheese Pizza ($5) and Beer ($5 – $7). It also includes one of the items we tasted – the Duck Fat Fries – for only $3! DeathbedFood.
The first dish out was indicative of the sophisticated comfort food to come: Risotto Croquettes? Fab.
Throughout the tasting, we could sample their variety of beautifully done cocktails, European beer on tap, and affordable European-influenced wine.
The Jidori Chicken Salad delighted. I could imagine having this as an everyday staple.
The Nicoise Salad was among the best I’ve had … especially those perfectly done soft boiled eggs.
While we didn’t have a Cheese Plate, it’s nice to see they have lots to choose from …
I’m fully supportive of the bacon jam trend … the Scallops with Smoked Bacon Jam rocked.
Farro Risotto? I’m loving seeing more and more Farro on menus these days.
I think the Chef treated us to a special dish that night, Rabbit Cassoulet. As readers may know, I have a real soft spot for Cassoulet and this Rabbit version was truly to die for.
… the Grilled Hanger Steak was definitely sophisticated comfort food reminding me of Beef Bourguignon.
The desserts were total comfort food too, beginning with the Cranberry Croissant Bread Pudding with caramel glaze …
… the Station Beignets with salted caramel, creme anglaise and Spanish chocolate dipping sauces …
… and the Chocolate Hazelnut Napoleon (chocolate flourless cake with hazelnut mousse and macerated raspberries).
All in all, casual yet sophisticated European style food + late night hours + great Happy Hour options = Winning! Can’t wait to hang out there again sometime soon.
